ADHD In Girls

ADHD in girls is often under-recognised, particularly for those with the inattentive subtype, as their symptoms — such as daydreaming, anxiety, and shyness — are less disruptive than hyperactivity. These traits can lead to later diagnoses, with some girls being misdiagnosed with anxiety or depression. During adolescence, their challenges often increase, with worsening mood swings and social difficulties. Additionally, highly intelligent girls may compensate academically but face greater anxiety due to perfectionism, missing out on their full potential.
